What the site does

Measure its audience, without cookies, with Pirsch.

Return you to your language on a later visit, if you accepted it. On arrival at the home page, your browser language is read locally to offer Italian or English; nothing is transmitted or retained without your consent.

Attune the atmosphere of the pages to the weather in your city, if you asked for it. The light of the pages also follows the time on your device: that calculation stays in your browser.

Play the voices and videos of the pages from our own servers: no third-party player or service. The site uses no advertising trackers and no social networks.

Data and recipients · Pirsch — audience measurement

According to Pirsch, your IP address and browser information are used to generate a daily identifier specific to this site; the IP address is not retained. No cookie is set. This measurement operates independently of your language and location choices.

BigDataCloud — location for weather

With your permission, your location and IP address are sent to BigDataCloud to identify your city; BigDataCloud also uses them to improve IP geolocation. Without browser permission, only your IP address is sent to estimate an approximate city. Terrae does not retain your precise position. BigDataCloud — Privacy

MET Norway — forecasts

Forecasts are requested from MET Norway through our server, for an area rounded to a hundredth of a degree (about a kilometre), never for your exact position. Searching a city by name also goes through this relay; sources are credited in the weather panel.

IONOS — hosting

The site and its media are hosted by IONOS. As with any server, its technical logs may contain IP addresses, city searches and location identifiers. An hourly token derived from the IP address serves only to limit requests to the weather relay.

The House Concierge

What you write on the House Concierge page (your name and email address and, if you provide them, your form of address, house or company, country, the details of your request, telephone number, and preferred time and language for the reply, together with the subject and your letter) is sent by email to the House, solely to reply to your request; this information is not kept on the site. Each letter is given a reference to make the follow-up easier; it is not kept on the site. To prevent abuse, the server keeps counters based on a non-reversible fingerprint of the IP address, for 48 hours at most. Your address is added to the Terrae letter only if you tick the box provided.

In detail

What stays on your device

Your privacy choice

Key “terrae-confidentialite-v1”, in the browser’s local storage. Kept for 180 days, whether you accept or decline; after that, the panel is offered again.

Your language

Key “terrae-langue-v1”. Written only if you accepted the language preference; erased as soon as that consent is withdrawn or expires.

Your city for the weather

Key “terrae-climat-session-v1”, in session storage: it applies to this tab only and remains usable for 12 hours. “Forget my city” clears it. A session marker (“terrae-climat-auto-v1”) avoids restarting automatic location on every page.

On our server

The located place remains usable for 12 hours and forecasts for 3 hours, in private temporary files. Cleanup depends on subsequent requests, so deletion may occur later.

Your choices

The “Privacy” button, in the footer of every page, reopens the panel: you can accept everything, allow only the essentials, or set the language preference and location separately, then save. A refusal is kept just like consent.

Location permission can also be changed in your browser settings. Choosing a city by name avoids any geolocation: the search queries a GeoNames city catalogue kept on the site’s server, with no request to any external service; “Forget my city” clears that choice without withdrawing consent to automatic location.

Your rights

You may request access to the data concerning you, its rectification or erasure, and object to processing, by writing to the address above. The site keeps no accounts and no visitor files: the only data processed is what this page describes.

You may also contact the data protection authority in your country.
